It was a fantastic mix of cosplay costumes, events and cool handmade items for Steampunk lovers. People flew in from all corners of the globe to attend this unique event which we've heard is one of the largest Steampunk Conventions in the world!
Below is the cover of the catalog which features the amazing work of Brian Kesinger "Steampunk Art that celebrates Victorian fashion and beauty with a dash of geekiness." www.bkartonline.com .
The show was put on by Arizona Steampunk Society.
We had our booth filled with our metal work WATTO Distinctive Metal Wear, jewelry from WATTO's Wife and tees and jewelry from Outlaw Kritters.
Although I didn't get to venture much out of my booth, the events book showed lots to do each and every hour including prop making workshops, tea dueling, photo ops, corpsing for dummies, steampunk makeup and kids zone just to name a few.
Old Tucson Studios was the perfect setting for this western inspired event. Over 300 films/ tv shows were shot here and when you see some of our photos you will see why. Of course these are just a snippet of what you would see if you ventured to this great destination spot yourself. Kinda makes you want to hop on a plane and head on over to Tucson, doesn't it?!
Then, of course, the people made the event even more awesome! The majority of folks showed up in their cosplay ready for action. The beauty of Steampunk is that it runs the gamut from a more traditional Steampunk approach to crossing over into other universes like Anime, Marvel, carnival and many many more worlds, so it's not surprising to see blue hair and striped stockings or cowboys with goggles.
A few pooches even got in on the action.
The musical lineup included some of the best in the Steampunk world including evening concerts of : The Cog is Dead, Steam Powered Giraffe, Frenchy and the Punk, and Abney Park. I had the fortune of watching Deus Ex Vapore Machina or DEVM on Sunday. Those ladies really knew how to put on a show. Here are a few pictures of them in action.
Even if you don't know much about Steampunk, this is a fun-packed event that is worth the trip. Check out the details at www.wildwestcon.com
